20 years ZFV: When the team becomes a second family
I came from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Switzerland 27 years ago. Twenty years ago I applied for a job at the kitchen office at the mensa of the Cantonal School Rämibühl. I have stayed there to this day.
Normally I begin work at 6.15 in the morning. I switch on the machines and then help in the kitchen. I do the set-up and cut the vegetables. Mid morning I go back to the washing-up area in order to clean all the kitchen apparatus, pans, glasses, cutlery, dishes and much more. At lunchtime, 400 to 500 guests eat daily in the mensa at the Cantonal School Rämibühl. In addition, we deliver to a further 20 partner companies. That results in a lot of washing-up. I like my job, because I can work independently and I am responsible for the entire washing-up office.
During the 20 years of my employment here, I have experienced many good moments as well as not so good moments. Especially at the beginning I had to fight for my recognition and prove myself. There were many language and cultural misunderstandings between myself and employees from different countries. The chefs were on my side and supported me. I am very well integrated now. We have grown together over the years. The Rämibühl-Team has become a second family to me. Because I have been here for over 20 years, I have got to know almost everybody here at ZFV. That is such a nice feeling.
